Mayan Civilization - Tikal

Tikal. Guatemala. Tikal (place of the voices) is the largest site of Mayan civilization, located in the middle of the jungle, surrounded by lush vegetation of lowland rainforest. Tikal was inhabited from the 6th century B.C. to the 10th century A.D. It was major ceremonial and population centre, dominating Maya region politically, economically, and militarily. In the 4th century A.D. Tikal was conquered by Teotihuacan. Nowadays, Tikal is favorite tourist spot. Visiting the extensive temples and palaces, hidden in the jungle is wonderful experience.

Tikal is located about 30 km from Flores and Santa Elena. Tikal is listed under UNESCO World Heritage Site.
